Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa has joined Wolves on a free transfer till the conclusion of the
current campaign.
Since departing Brazilian team Atletico Mineiro in January, the 33-year-old has been without a
club.
As a replacement for the recently signed Sasa Kalajdzic, who sustained a cruciate injury on his
debut, Costa completed his physical on Thursday of last week.
“It [my signing] wasn’t in the finest terms imaginable on accounts of a player’s ailment,” Costa
stated.
He said, “I can only wish him the best for him,” the former Spain international.
“However, when he [manager Bruno Lage] mentioned going back to the Premier League, I was
interested since this is a competition I have always enjoyed and watched.
“I felt dejected, despite how much I liked playing in Madrid, but this inspired me. It lit that fire
within me.”
Costa, who is approaching 500 matches in his career, won the Premier League twice with Chelsea
and several other awards during two stints with Atletico Madrid.
Last week, he participated in a trial with Wolves to determine his fitness and suitability.
Wolves have won only one of their six games this season, and as a result, they are presently 14th
in the Premier League standings.
According to Wolves chairman Jeff Shi, Diego “will add something special to our dressing room
and on the pitch.”
